01 — The name

Drawn from the circle

CORCA grew out of circle and settled into Spanish — a word that keeps the shape inside the sound. The form follows the same logic: one closed curve, no beginning and no end, turned back into itself until it becomes a body.

02 — The scale

12.76 — the diameter of the world

The torus is not sized by taste. Its diameter is fixed at 12.76 metres, the Earth's own diameter carried down from thousands of kilometres to the scale of a room. Everything cut from this ring is therefore cut from the world itself.

03 — The piece

Black is what we carry, frost is what we could be

Each slice taken from the torus stands for one person. The black passages hold the harm we are capable of; the frosted-glass passages hold the good still waiting inside. Neither ever cancels the other — the two live on the same surface, in different proportions, in every single piece.

04 — The pattern

A grain that grows in four dimensions

The pattern takes its logic from the grain of solid timber, but it is generated in four dimensions rather than three: time is a design axis, so the drawing keeps shifting as it advances. Take two pieces from anywhere on the ring and they cannot be identical — the same way no two people, and no two trees, ever are.

05 — The material

Earth, wearing the memory of wood

The pieces become ceramic: cups, plates, vessels — objects that come out of the ground and return to the hand every day. Clay from the earth, carrying the grain of a tree, held by a person made of the same matter. That is the whole argument of the project: we are not visitors to nature, and we should not need reminding.
